Daily Photo – Alligator for Wildlife Wednesday

This one is from my archives. I shot this at the National Zoo with my old Canon Rebel XS and a Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6. I shot this behind a glass cage, there was a little bit of glare and the image appear soft.

When Lightroom 5 came out, I revisited my 2009 Catalog and reprocess some of the photos. This is what I came up with. See the before and after below.

It took a little experimenting. To remove the glare, I needed to move the highlight slider all the way to the left, then increase the shadows to +45, whites to +25 . I also added some sharpening and worked on the masking in Lightroom to isolate the part of the image I wanted to sharpen, in this case the head of the gator. I created a lightroom preset that you can download for free. Maybe you can use it on your image. You may just have to tweak it a little bit to suit your needs.
