Daily Photo – Black Grasshopper
May 16, 2014
Shot this the other day during my daily walk to the bushes. This is a Lubber Grasshopper, these grasshoppers are eye catching because of their large size and dark colors. They are unable to fly and as I have notice, sluggish and doesn’t jump away unless they are threaten.
This was shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and the Olympus M. 40-150mm F/4-5.6 R, shot at 138mm, F/8, 1/250, ISO 320. I love the EM5, at 16mp and in good day light, it produces excellent images, plus it’s light, small and easy to carry around. The Olympus 40-150mm is also a great performer given it’s size and cheap price, it does it’s job really well. I find it soft at 150mm F/5.6, but stop down at F/6.3 and shoot at around 145mm and it’s a totally different story.
In post, I used Topaz Detail on the center to pop our friendly black grasshopper.
