Asian Elephant at the Smithsonian National Zoo

Kandula the 11 yr old Asian Elephant at the Smithsonian National Zoo

This photo of Kandula was taken at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC. This was shot handheld using the Non IS Canon EF 400mm F/5.6L USM at 1/400, F/5.6 with an ISO of 400 and a Canon EOS 60D. In this photo I waited for Kandula to get closer so I can get a tight shot because I wanted remove the clutter and some distractions on the background, and to get a sharp image, I bump up the ISO to 400, and use shutter priority. My goal is to use  a fast enough shutter speed like a minimum 1/400 to avoid blurring photograph. With a higher ISO I can use a fast shutter speed and not worry about anything else.
