Cheap Follow Focus / Focus Assist for Your DSLR
May 5, 2012
Ok, I really need to share this. Two weeks ago, I needed to shoot a short video for a friend. So I thought of making some sort of simple follow focus that I can use. We all know that the cheapest follow focus will easily go from $100 and more. So scratch that. I'm not buying one. Thankfully I found one that is really cheap and amusing, really, I was laughing when I saw the video below.
Yes you are absolutely right, it's Jar Opener. This is exactly what I need, this jar opener really made it easy for me to focus, whether the camera is on a tripod or a shoulder rig like the CowboyStudio Shoulder Support Pad.
I got to tell you this simple follow focus solution really works and not only that you can use it to shoot video, it also has a lot of other features like:
- Opens jars with less effort, easy to use.
- Made of Silicone, adjustable and flexible.
- Adjustable to most sizes of bottle jars and lenses (Canon, Nikon, Pentax etc.).
- Easy to clean, dishwasher safe.
- Available in Colors Red, Green or Blue.
Funny, we had this one for a very long time, I just found out, that it does work with jars too.
If you are on a budget and don't really need a full featured follow focussystem, this simple solution can really help you without breaking your bank. It fits nicely on my EF 50mm F/1.4, Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, EF 70-200mm F/4L IS and EF 85mm F/1.8.
Check your local store, Walmart, Beth Bath and Beyond etc. If you can't find one locally, it's also available on Amazon:
