Street Photography Tip : Take Your Lens Cap Off

Months ago I came across a new comer who asked me what’s the best street photography tip I can give him, and my answer is Take Your Lens Cap Off.

Everytime I go out to shoot I take my lens cap off and clip it in my R-Strap, the only time I put them on my lens is when I’m done shooting for the day. Some may say that the purpose of the lens cap is to protect the lens, yes that’s true but how can you shoot with the lens cap on.

In the streets, things happen so fast and with a blink of an eye, if you are not quick enough it’s done, and you missed the shot. It is better to shoot with the lens cap off, that way all you have to do when you see something you wanted to shoot is is raised your camera and press the shutter. Sometimes you may not even need to raised your camera.

For protection I use my lens hoods, not the lens cap. I never go out to shoot without my lens hood.
