Todays #Macro Monday Sub Theme is Dreamy, like the usual, I dug through my archives and I found the photo. It was ok and perfect for today's theme, but I wanted to add a little more lens effect.  Topaz Labs has the right tool for the job, the Topaz Lens Effects. Lens Effects is one the many easy to use photoshop plugins that Topaz Labs offers.

Another one from my archives. Taken back in 2009, this HDR photo is composed three exposure shots that I re-processed using Photomatix Pro 4 and tweak using Topaz Adjust.

I use my old 10.1mp Canon EOS Rebel XS and the Canon EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 III Lens, one of Canon’s economy zoom lenses.

This statue of Benjamin Franklin stands on a pedestal in front of the Old Post Office Pavilion on the corner of 12th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. It was sculpted in 1889 by Jacques Jouvenal. Franklin's statue was placed in front of the Old Post Office building because he was also a postmaster, appointed by King George III before the Revolutionary War.[via Waymarking]

Korean War Veterans Memorial, Washington DC

The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. is located southeast of the Lincoln Memorial and just south of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. It commemorates those who served in the Korean War.

The memorial has 19 stainless steel statues designed by Frank Gaylord. Each figures represent a squad on patrol, drawn from each branch of the armed forces; fourteen of the figures are from the U.S. Army, three are from the Marine Corps, one is a Navy Corpsman, and one is an Air Force Forward Air Observer. They are dressed in full combat gear, dispersed among strips of granite and juniper bushes which represent the rugged terrain of Korea.[via WikiPedia]

So far I’m still able to keep up with my daily photo project for 2011. Two of my photo resolution or my goals for 2011 are to make a new picture everyday and try a new style of photography. So here it is and I hope you like it.

Titled Dry Forest. This morning I decided to venture out into the woods to see what I can come up with. Taken with my Canon Rebel XS with Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 VC, on Aperture Priority, Aperture F/11, Shutter Speed 1/25 and ISO 100. I added a little motion blur in Photoshop CS5 to give it an artsy fatsy look. Here’s the original black and white version below, before I added the motion blur.

Welcome 2011

First Photo Upload for My 2011 Photo of The Day. I made this photo between 12:30AM and 1AM on New Years Day, I was thinking of making it in the morning, but why wait, there are a lot to photograph at this very moment, it’s right in front of me. All I needed to do was to be a little creative.

So I grab my little mag lite, a wine glass, and a sparkling water. I set the wine glass in front of the Gilbey’s Gin which is already in front of the Christmas Lights and pour a sparkling water on it. I then set the camera on the tripod and set it to Aperture Priority at F/2.8, set the timer to 10 secs to give me time to move back a little and I use my little mag lite with an upgraded blue led torch to light the subject from behind, probably around two to three away from the subject.

It was an amazing Tuesday morning experience witnessing the total eclipse of the moon- Dec. 21, 2010. Armed with a mug of hot chocolate, and my camera gear, I spent the next two hours in the cold(between 18-20deg) staring and taking photos of the this spectacular event. It is also today, that the winter solstice arrives. According to Geoff Chester, public affairs officer at the U.S. Naval Observatory, the last time the two celestial events occurred within the same calendar day , was in 1638. Although the solstice does not always occur on the same date each year, the date in 1638 was the same as Tuesday’s – Dec. 21. The next occurrence of this two will be on Dec. 21, 2094.

Tomb of the Unkowns also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Located in Arlington National Cemetery, it is a monument dedicated to American servicemen/women who have died without their remains being identified.

The “Unknown Soldier” of World War I is a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the Victoria Cross, and several other foreign nations’ highest service awards. The U.S. Unknown Soldiers who were interred afterwards are also recipients of the Medal of Honor, presented by the U.S. presidents who presided over their funerals.
