We don't need to travel far to take photographs of wildlife. You can find many beautiful creatures to photograph in your sorroundings. Take for example this Grasshopper, I shot it yesterday morning on our backyard while I was having coffee. So next time you go into your backyard have your camera ready, you'll never know what you will find.

Dogbane Beetle. Olympus E-PL1 | Canon FD 50mm F/1.8 | Raynox DCR-250
This beautiful shiny dog bane beetle is trying to climb the leaf when I found him.
Shot with the Olympus PEN E-PL1 and Canon FD 50mm F/1.8 I also use my Raynox DCR-250 for greater magnification, this allowed me to cut the minimum focus distance of the FD 50mm F/1.8 so I can move in much closer. The FD 50mm F/1.8 is not a macro lens and the minimum focus distance is 0.6m or around 23 inches. With the DCR-250 you can significantly cut this.
I'm pretty happy with this one. The flash really did the trick. It was pretty dark with all those leaves around. If not for this lighting setup it would be really hard to get this.

I don't like flys, no no! But, they are so challenging to photograph I always try see if can take a good picture of them. This one seems ok. It took me several attempts before I got this one, and everytime, I position myself and start to focus, this little bugger is going to hop to the next leaf, and to the next and to the next. When photographing insects /bugs especially those quick ones, you'll need patience and lots of them.

I wasn’t planning on taking a photo of this fly, but when it landed on the table I covered it with a clear disposable cup and immediately grab may camera, hoping to get a close-up.

I’m not a big macro shooter, but there are times that I feel like I want to get close to nature and that’s when I shoot macro. What I love about macro photography is the fact that there are a lot of subjects to choose from, my favorites is to shoot insects/bugs and some flowers, but theres more to it and the possibilities are endless.
