_MG_2999Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. I have finally decided to sell my Canon EF 70-210mm and posted it on eBay for $155, this includes shipping and handling, and on Saturday at 11PM, it was sold.

When I got this lens over a year ago, I said, I wasn’t going to sell it. It’s a keeper, I use it more than I used my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Lens . It’s a great all around lens. I used it around the house, it’s the lens attached to my 20d every time I go for a morning or afternoon stroll and I want to take a telephoto instead of the 50mm. It’s light, easy to carry around and it takes great pictures.

Welcome 2011

First Photo Upload for My 2011 Photo of The Day. I made this photo between 12:30AM and 1AM on New Years Day, I was thinking of making it in the morning, but why wait, there are a lot to photograph at this very moment, it’s right in front of me. All I needed to do was to be a little creative.

So I grab my little mag lite, a wine glass, and a sparkling water. I set the wine glass in front of the Gilbey’s Gin which is already in front of the Christmas Lights and pour a sparkling water on it. I then set the camera on the tripod and set it to Aperture Priority at F/2.8, set the timer to 10 secs to give me time to move back a little and I use my little mag lite with an upgraded blue led torch to light the subject from behind, probably around two to three away from the subject.

Lunar Eclipse 2010. At 3.25am (Tuesday Dec. 21, 2010)

Today I spent nearly two hours in the cold around 18-20deg taking photos of the Lunar Eclipse, this is my first time to take photos of an eclipse, and only the second time to witness such an amazing event. I was in and out of the house, there are times that it gets so cloudy and I couldn’t see a thing, thankfully I was able to get some good shots. It was easy taking a photo of the moon in it’s regular state, I just set the camera in manual mode and set the aperture between f/8 to f/10 and the shutter speeds at around 250 and 400 at iso 100 and everything will be fine and I can shoot handheld, but in eclipse, it’s really different especially when the shadow of the earth is covering only half of the moon. I wanted to capture both sides on camera but, if I expose for the moon the part that is covered with shadow wouldn’t be visible, and if expose to the covered part the other half is over exposed, stuff like those. But overall it was an amazing experience. I also created a separate post about the event that you can read here.

hristmas Tree At The Capitol

Taken earlier today. My plan was to create an HDR Photo of this Christmas Tree. Maybe in the next few days I may be able to do it. For now, it’s bokeh spectacular. This wasn’t really on my plan. I was about to pack up and on my way out of the capitol grounds, with the tripod and camera on my shoulders, I glance at the capitol and tree and decided to take one more set from where I’m at. I press the set button to activate live view and saw this out of focus view of the tree and the capitol, and I said, why not, i have not done this for quite sometime, it looks really nice and it’s kinda fun to experiment once in a while. So here it is, Christmas Light Bokeh.

Taken today at the Capitol Grounds December 19, 2010 at 5:42pm eastern:

Shutter Speed : 1.6
Aperture : F/5.6
ISO : 100

Taken across the Lincoln Reflecting Pool from the World War II Memorial at around 10 pm at night. You can feel the silence of the surroundings just by looking at it.

Taken at 90mm, ISO 100, 10.0sec at F/11 using a EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 lens

Wine GlassPhoto by : Jay Capilo

Believe it or not the photo above was taken by an amateur, that’s according to him, but if you take a look at it, it looks like it was shot for a wine commercial.

RinglingBrothers-193Yesterday I had the opportunity to watch the Ringling Bros. Circus. I brought my Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 VC, EF 85mm F/1.8 and my only telephoto the EF 70-210mm F/4 Macro. 90% of the  time I was using the EF 70-210mm, the 85mm was sleeping in the bag all time.

I was impressed with the performance of the EF 70-210mm F/4, with it, I was able to take photos that wasn’t just possible with the Tamron 17-50mm, because of the distance.  All the photos on this post are of the 70-210mm and none of them were post processed, they came straight from the SD Card imported to my lightroom library and uploaded to flickr.
