Full Moon June 2, 2012 10:57PM Canon EF 400mm F/5.6L

Shot this last night, thank goodness it wasn't raining and the sky was really clear. Lookint at the moon on it's brightest is really captivating.

At a full moon, the earth, moon, and sun are in approximate alignment, just as the new moon, but the moon is on the opposite side of the earth, so the entire sunlit part of the moon is facing us. The shadowed portion is entirely hidden from view. Via MoonConection

Waxing Gibbous

A Waxing Gibbous Moon is when more than half of the moon is lighted but less than full.

After the new moon, the sunlit portion is increasing, but less than half, so it is waxing crescent. After the first quarter, the sunlit portion is still increasing, but now it is more than half, so it iswaxing gibbous. After the full moon (maximum illumination), the light continually decreases. So the waning gibbous phase occurs next. Following the third quarter is the waning crescent, which wanes until the light is completely gone — a new moon. via MoonConnection

Back in May of 2001, Pizza Hut, became the first to deliver pizza in space, now Dominos wants to be the first to have a Pizza Restaurant On The Moon. Great,  soon aliens will have a chance to try it out . Hmm, I wonder if they deliver???

“The company estimates the entire project will cost Y1.67 trillion — some £13.4 billion — of which Y560 billion (£4.5 billion) will be required to transport 70 tons of construction materials and pizza-making equipment to the moon aboard 15 rockets.”

It was an amazing Tuesday morning experience witnessing the total eclipse of the moon- Dec. 21, 2010. Armed with a mug of hot chocolate, and my camera gear, I spent the next two hours in the cold(between 18-20deg) staring and taking photos of the this spectacular event. It is also today, that the winter solstice arrives. According to Geoff Chester, public affairs officer at the U.S. Naval Observatory, the last time the two celestial events occurred within the same calendar day , was in 1638. Although the solstice does not always occur on the same date each year, the date in 1638 was the same as Tuesday’s – Dec. 21. The next occurrence of this two will be on Dec. 21, 2094.
